There are many gaps in our knowledge of the descendants of John Ockerby, baptised in Church Fenton in 1624. We know that there are many Ockerbys living in America and we have had some contact there. It is believed that they are all descended from one pioneer who emigrated to Canada and from there settled in the USA, possibly near Illinois. I would be delighted to hear from anyone with any information on the line of Ockerbys in the USA, particularly who made that first brave journey across the Atlantic. Even closer to home, we know that there is a whole contingent of Ockerbys living in the Manchester, England area. We have managed to make little or no contact with them, other than with Lilian Candy whose mother was an Ockerby and who now resides near Bournemouth. Any infomation on this side of the family can be sent to me and I will gladly start to compile a family tree.
